How to set up Chromecast for a new WiFi network

Only a few gadgets let you cast music and videos from your phone or tablet to your Smart TV or PC. Google Chromecast may be the most portable and small of all the gadgets.

Google Chromecast cannot remember more than one WiFi connection at a given time. You will need to change your WiFi frequently if your Chromecast is used a lot or you have multiple WiFi links in your home.

If you have already connected Chromecast to a WiFi network, changing the WiFi link is easy. This becomes more complicated if you have to change your WiFi router.

The Google Home app on Android or iOS won’t recognize the Chromecast, and you will need to reset it. Let’s take a look at the steps you need to follow to establish a new WiFi connection for your Chromecast.

Chromecast switching from one active WiFi to another Active WiFi

  • Make sure your Chromecast is connected to the same WiFi network as your smart TV and smartphone
  • Turn on your TV, and ensure that Chromecast is turned on.

Chromecast reset from a non-active WiFi connection

If your Chromecast is still connected to an old WiFi network but is not active, you will need to reset it and connect to a new WiFi. If the network is not present, Google Home App won’t verify the Chromecast.

Your Chromecast won’t be able to tell the difference and will continue trying to connect to the old network. Your old WiFi network is not available, so your Chromecast cannot be told to forget about an unavailable network.

The reset steps are the same for both the 1st and 2nd Gen devices.
