Connect Canon EOS R and MAC – Overview

These are the things you should keep in mind before you begin the process of connecting Canon EOS R and Mac.

• To connect Canon eos R with Mac, you will need a quality USB cable that is compatible with Mac.
• Before establishing a connection, make sure you turn off the camera.

Here are the steps to connect Canon EOS R (via USB).

Step 1. Power on the camera

Make sure that your camera is not already connected to Mac. Once you are sure, turn it ON and continue with the task.

Step 2. Entering the Camera menu

Once the camera has been powered on, you will be able to access the main menu by pressing “Menu” in the upper left corner.

Step 3. Disable the auto-power off option

After you have logged into the main menu, the Canon EOS R will ask you to turn off the auto power-off option. Once you’re done, click the ‘SET’ button.

After rebooting both devices, you can begin the connection process by following the steps.

Step 1. Run the EOS utility program

Canon’s official website provides the Canon EOS Utility for Mac software. Download and install it. After you have completed the installation, you will need to turn on wireless mode for your Canon EOS R.

Step 2. Enabling the WIFI feature on Camera

Now you need to enable WIFI on your Canon EOS R. Follow the steps below to do this.

WIFI settings>Enable>Wifi Function>Remote Control (EOS Utility)>Register a device for connection

After you’ve completed the same process, your LCD screen will display the SSID/Password information.

Step 3. Enabling the connection on Mac

After you have enabled the wifi feature on the camera, go to the WIFI network option and select ‘SSID WIFI info from above’. Next, follow the same process in Mac. You can continue the same process by going to the WIFI network option, and selecting ‘SSID WIFI information from above.

The password will be required by your computer. Enter the password you saw on the camera screen, and then click ‘Join’.

Step 4. Pairing both the devices

On the camera screen, you will see a message saying “Start pairing devices”. You will now be prompted to click OK.

To initiate the pairing process, EOS would require a camera. Select ‘Canon EOS R’ and?Connect. A popup window will appear on your MAC screen stating ‘Check the camera LCD and complete network settings.

The prompt will appear on your Mac screen. However, the LCD camera would display ‘XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX’. Connect to the computer. Select OK.

Step 5. Connection established

Now the devices are connected. The transfer of your favourite videos and images can be done easily.
