Note: Alexa has access to your Spotify Premium account playlists, songs, and library by signing up for it. You can also take advantage of the trial period if you’ve signed up.
1. Creating a Spotify Account
Open your browser (Google Chrome, Safari, etc.) Visit Spotify’s website www.spotify.com. Click on the Login button if you have already signed up for Spotify. Enter your username and password. You can also choose to continue with Facebook, Apple, or Google, or your phone number.
You can create an account by clicking the Signup button if you have not created one before. Enter your information, including email address, profile name, birth date, and password. To continue, click the Sign-up button.
Note You can also sign-up with Facebook to link your Spotify account with social media.
2. Join the premium service
After you have created your account and logged in, click on the account overview page. Click on your profile at the top of the page to access it. Next, click on the Account link to go to the account overview page.
This shows that you have a Spotify Free account. To connect it to Alexa, however, you will need to sign up for the premium service. Click on the JOIN PREMIUM BUTTON below the free plan badge. On the next page, you can see different plans. Select the plan you want to purchase and then choose how to pay. Spotify accepts PayPal and credit cards.
After everything is done, your Spotify account will be upgraded to a premium version. Simply click the START MY SPOTIFY PREMIUM button at the bottom.
Note – Instead of clicking on the accounts page and going through the profile section, you can quickly get to the account page. Simply click the UPGRADE button, which is located in the top right. 5. Continue linking Spotify service to Alexa
After you click on Spotify under services, you’ll land on a page. To link both accounts, click on Settings. To access Spotify content, click on the link account option on the skills settings page. Sign in to your Spotify account to continue the link operation.
Now you will be presented with the Spotify terms that you need to use when connecting it with Alexa. Scroll down and click on the AGREE button. Congratulations! Your Spotify account is now successfully linked to the Alexa app. This message can be closed and you can continue using the Alexa app.
6. Changing the default music service
Amazon Alexa is the product; Amazon Music is the default music service. The Echo and Fire TV devices use this music service as a default. We want Spotify to be the default service.
Tap on More to return to the fourth step. Next, choose settings. Tap on Music & Podcasts from the Settings menu. You will see Default services at the top of this page. You will be taken to another page within the Alexa app if you tap on it. You can also check your settings for artists, genres, and music stations.
While we leave the settings as they are, we can change the music app. Click on Change, then select Spotify. When you speak the Alexa voice command “Alexa, play some music”, it will use Spotify to perform all operations. If you wish to make other changes to Spotify, however, it will be your choice.
