Sony Headphones vs. Beats
We decided to test the new Sony WH1000XM3 headphones and Beats Studio 3 headphones, as music lovers are increasingly looking for noise-cancelling headphones. These headphones are not intended for gaming, but they are called over-ear wireless active noise cancelling headphones.
The Sony WH1000XM3 has 3 microphones. It is great for making calls frequently. Sony headsets do not have an extendable microphone so they are not suitable for gaming. These are better for general use or commuter wireless headphones that have advanced noise-cancelling technology.
The Beats Studio 3 on the other hand is lighter, more comfortable, and offers many new features that were missing in the previous model.
If you love listening to low-fi music, the Beats Studio 3 or Sony WH-1000XM3 might be a better choice.
Which is better, Beats or Sony?
It all boils down to personal preferences when it comes to the features and performance of headphones. There are two brands that are well-respected for quality, comfort, and control. Before making your final decision, it is important to consider these questions:
- How long and when will you use the headphones? Do you use the headphones for several hours or the entire day?
- Can they be charged overnight for their services?
- Are you using Alexa or any other digital assistants?
- Are you able to use your headphones while exercising? Do you want them to be waterproof because you wear them outdoors?
- Are you more likely to be in noisy environments? Are you able to block out the noise from outside or are you able to hear what is happening around you?
- Do you enjoy listening to music or audiobooks?
- Are price and quality important in your purchasing decision?
- Do you feel loyal to a brand?
- Are you looking to replace your headphones?
- Do you want to make your money work for you?

SONY WH1000XM3 Features and Specs
Style
The Sony WH1000XM3 has a slightly different headband design than its older models like the MDR-1000X or WH-1000XM2. The leather earpads have a two-tone finish and are covered in leather. The profile is also lower. The earpads are identical to the predecessor but have stylish accents around the vents and company logo. The headphones can be purchased in either a subtle black or flashy white color.
Comfort
The WH-1000XM3 model has a more comfortable design than its predecessor. It features a soft, better earpad and a new headband. The new design fits comfortably over the head. You can now use your headphones longer in total comfort.
Controls
The touch-sensitive controls are the same as in its predecessor, but this model is more responsive to swipe gestures. The controls are easy to use. To adjust the volume, swipe up or down, swipe left or right to rewind, swipe left to skip tracks, and double-tap the multi-function button for pause, resume, and call management. The audio is instantly muted by covering the touch-pad. The ambient button is located on the left earcup and activates the aware mode.
BEATS STUDIO 3
Style
The Beats Studio 3 maintains the same sleekness as previous models. The ear cups are designed with the button pad in a clean and simple way. These ear cups are fashionable and available in many colors.
Comfort
Studio 3 is very lightweight and comfortable to wear for extended periods of time. The cups cover the entire ear with minimal clamping force. The headband is not covered with a padded cover and feels tighter than it should, but that’s not an issue.
Controls
Beats Studio 3 is easier to use than its predecessor. Double-tapping on the power button activates and deactivates active noise cancellation mode. Users can also use the touch-sensitive controls to make and receive calls, skip tracks, and adjust volume easily.
The Sony WH-1000XM3 headphones are faster charging and have better battery backup, while Beats Studio 3 headphones offer more comfort and good bass. You can choose the model that best suits your needs.
